FAQ

WILL YOU BE HOSTING ANY SOLDERING WORKSHOPS NEAR ME?

We're always looking for new places and new venues to host Tech Teens workshops. If you'd like to see a workshop near you, let us know via our contact form!

Alternatively, you can book a one-on-one soldering tuition session here.

MY CHILD IS IN YEAR 4, CAN THEY JOIN THE JUNIOR WORKSHOP?

Our public liability insurance only covers children who are currently 9 years old or above. If your child is 9 or over, they are more than welcome to participate. If not, then we look forward to seeing them at a Tech Teens workshop in the future!

MY CHILD HAS PREVIOUSLY COMPLETED A SOLDERING WORKSHOP, CAN THEY ATTEND HIGHER LEVELS?

If your child has:

  • completed the junior workshop

  • demonstrated competent soldering skills

  • the ability to work independently

then they are more than welcome to attend an intermediate Tech Teens soldering workshop.

SOLDERING SOUNDS DANGEROUS, WILL MY CHILD BE SAFE WHILE ATTENDING THESE WORKSHOPS?

Safety is our number one priority. For more information, head over to our Safety and Wellbeing page.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON'T COMPLETE THE DEVICE DURING THE WORKSHOP?

We will have plenty of time during the session to finish your device, but these things can happen. If you were unable to finish the device by the end of the workshop, you will have the option of paying a discounted price to take home everything you need to finish your projects at home under the supervision of an adult.

For $15, you will receive:

  • A USB powered soldering iron (one of the ones we used during the class). Compatible with any phone charger or computer USB port capable of 2A output; and

  • A length of solder sufficient to complete the project

Payment can be by cash or card, and can be made at pick-up time at the conclusion of the workshop.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I MAKE A MISTAKE AND BREAK PART OF MY DEVICE?

Mistakes happen - it doesn't mean your money will have gone to waste.
We stock replacements for most of the more delicate components. If you happen to break something small during the workshop, we will most likely have another one we can give you, free of charge. If we don't have it, we will be able to tell you exactly where to get it so that you can finish it off later at home under the supervision of an adult.
If you break something bigger, such as the printed circuit board, battery or LCD Screen, we can provide a replacement at an extra cost. These are really hard to break, though, so we're not expecting this to happen very often, if at all.
